The smell of cookies and a Christmas atmosphere

Only one more night and Christmas Eve is here! Who of you already has bought and wrapped the largest number of presents, baked cookies, listened to Christmas carols or simply enjoyed the atmosphere of these special days?

I certainly have – only yesterday I baked different Christmas cookies with some ambitious helpers. “Linzer Augen”, Points of Paris, vanilla crescents, ginger bread and many other specials were on our list.

Experiences with the Sigma 18-250mm F3, 5-6, 3 DC Macro OS HSM

Without a zoom lens it is difficult to capture all of the amazing things on a journey. If you do not want to switch from one lens to another you got to get a lens which offers a wide range of opportunities. I did not have such an all-rounder, so I figures I needed to get one. So I went for the 18-250mm F3, 5-6, 3 DC Macro OS HSM from Sigma and searched for motifs. The glass is pretty nice, because you can capture buildings from far away as well as things, which are close or even take some macro photographs.

SIGMA 105mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro lens

Rain, bad weather, a somber mood and yet there’s an unbounded enthusiasm to take photos?
That’s how I was feeling a couple of days ago, so I decided spontaneously to visit the Butterfly House once again!
This time I brought my  SIGMA 105 f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro lens, because for me,  it is the perfect choice for taking pictures of insects.

Sigma 20mm/f1.4 First Impressions

Being a proud owner of the Sigma 105mm/f2.8 Macro lens, the decision to buy the Sigma 20mm/f1.4 DG HSM was some kind of a turnaround. Being an enthusiastic macro and portrait photographer I finally took this decision after a friend had returned from his vacation with exciting outdoor-pictures taken with this lens.
The ultra wide-angle lens can easily be handled by the experienced photographer with a weight of 950g and a size of 90.7 x 129.8mm.

Now, I’ve taken it with me for my first few trips and carried it with me for the whole day without my hand falling off. So, for me this is already the first reason to love it! 😉

More bird photos and a couple of macro shots (150-600mm C)

With over 20 degrees on Monday, to me, it didn’t feel like winter at all. I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to take some great bird shots, so I took my SD1 Merrill and the 150-600mm C on a photo session.

After hours of making use of the heavy equipment, my hair and my undershirt were completely sweaty, but since it was calm outside, I thought nothing of it. Coming home, I felt great, but later on in the evening, I got the paycheck: chills, fever and a mean cough.

Ironically I didn’t catch a cold when it was minus 15 degrees Celsius outside in December.

So I spend the last few days in bed and on my couch. I totally forgot, how much fun it can be, to do absolutely nothing …or at least nothing exhausting ;). To snuggle in my warm, cozy blanket, drinking tea, watching TV and surfing the internet – total recreation!

I almost felt like on vacation …almost. While being sick and staying at home, I had enough time to follow the Sigma reports on the latest cameras and lenses, which sigma announced yesterday. I also watched some helpful GIMP- tutorials on YouTube and I had plenty of time to edit the photos, I took on Monday.

Comparison: Marumi DHG200 vs. Raynox DCR-250 (Sigma DP3 Merrill)

deutsch_s1

First of all the most important thing: I wish you all a very Happy New Year! 🙂

In the following posting I’d like to show you some images that can make your decision between the Marumi DHG200 and the Raynox DCR-250 easier. Both achromatic lenses are a good and cheap (~ €70) option to improve the macro suitability of a camera or of a lens, respectively. But which one of the two achromatic lenses offers more for the same value?
