An espresso, sun and colorful houses

Easter, according to a recent newspaper report, is supposed to be the best season to visit Venice and its little nearby islands. “Venice… First time here?” somebody asked me. No. For another time. But this time only beautiful Venezia wasn’t enough – after the gray winter I was longing for as many colors as possible. That’s why I took the ferryboat to Burano. This island can already be seen from far away. The leaning clock tower and the colorful houses of the tiny village on the island spread their colors into the distance.

Daily Overview

The experience that transforms an astronaut’s perspective of our planet Earth and mankind’s purpose and place upon it is referred to as the overview effect. The term was first used by Frank White in 1987. Astronauts, who were lucky enough to make this incredible experience, mentioned a shift of perspective related to our planet Earth and the importance of the actions of human-beings. They spoke about the emergence of a profound understanding of how valuable life and our planet really are and they mentioned a deep sense of connection and a newly discovered responsibility towards Earth and everything it offers.

Paperboyo and his amazing paper cutouts

8

I’m definitely someone who is easily impressed by creative photo ideas. It amazes me how some photographers have the most unique and genius ideas and it makes me realize, how endless the possibilities are when it comes to photography.

Rich McCor, a.k.a Paperboyo, is one of those artists who recently left the biggest impression on me.

I found his Instagram profile through a friend who is a big fan of his work and I was instantly thrilled.

Easter in China

2D6A9782-min

It was time for me again to leave home for exploring unknown, faraway places. As you already know me, my camera and me are used to simply hop on the next train, bus or plane in order to travel to other countries.

This time, through mere coincidence than big considerations, we travelled to China. (I would like to thank at this point all the travel websites that enabled me to find very easily the best offers in such a short time).

The life of another person is definitely a mystery to an outsider. Looking at it from a distance, one can of course imagine what the life of another person looks like. One might even be able to get to know the surface of this particular life, be it through conversations or maybe just by observations through the Social Media platforms. Although people are said to become more transparent over the last few years, what the lives of others really look like is still and will probably always be a mystery. Even more so, when this “other person” belongs to a different culture, or is part of what is known as the margins of society.

Zack Seckler makes you ready for summer and laugh out loud

_2016_Zack_Seckler_SA00000031

By chance I happened to come across and got stuck with Zack Seckler . Seckler’s got humor, a lot of humor. You can notice this at first sight. And he’s got an extraordinary image style. His photos express something bizarre, something fantastic. And the colors are creamy like ice cream.

Lensculture & Magnum Photo Award 2017

1

MAGNUM, a name everybody who even knows a bit about photography is familiar with. For decades Magnum has ranged among the most important and most influential photo agencies worldwide. Many of the most popular photographers are among the series of Magnum photographers and working under a contract for Magnum Photos surely is a great honor.

Magnum was founded in 1947, which means that the legendary agency will celebrate its 70th anniversary on 27 April this year. To celebrate this special event Magnum and Lens Culture Magazine are organizing a photo competition.

The Magnum Photography Award will give a chance to all photographic talents from all over the world to present their work on an international stage. We think this is a great idea, even the thought of having a chance to present your own pictures in connection with Magnum makes us all excited.

For a second time Magnum Photography and Lens Culture Magazine are aiming to discover the best photographers in the world. A jury is going to award all submitted photos, 12 winners and 20 finalists in 6 categories (documentary, street photography, portrait, fine art, photo journalism and open compositions).

On their website Magnum emphasizes what participating at an award-winning contest of such popularity actually means for your own photo. The images classified by the jury as top photos are shared with a public of 3.5 million people and in addition the winners can be happy with a publication of their own photo series. If that isn’t enough already, the works of the winners as well as those of the finalists and the jury’s favorites will be exhibited in London’s Photographer’s Gallery.

One part of the prize is getting access to Magnum workshops worldwide, which in our opinion is already a very good reason to take this incredible opportunity. 😉

Submission deadline is on 16 May 2017!

What a beautiful colorful world! Will Sanders

Looking at his photos makes you feel good. Especially the ones of his personal series “Full Colour”. They shine, they’re partly funny or simply beautiful and full of colors in particular.

Will Sanders, a photographer from London, created his personal project in which he captures the colors in the streets in wonderful compositions. He shoots when he sees the perfect image – very often his photos are full of dynamic, with people who sometimes look a bit surreal and situations that may seem a bit bizarre. His message is to show that our everyday lives often seem to occur like in a fantasy world. As his photos tell us, he went to many places all over the world.

Since March 16th the book about his project is available online on his website for 30 pounds. And, corresponding to his theme, you can choose between three different colors for the cover of the book. There’s a blue, yellow and red one.
