Comparison: 35mm fixed focal length vs. 50mm fixed focal length

When can you use which lens? The SIGMA 35mm DG f/1.4 Art has already been presented to you. Today, I’d like to take a closer look on the SIGMA 50mm DG HSM f/1.4 in a comparison to the 35mm fixed focal length. What’s better than a perfect comparison with a tour on the market and all the nice colors? I’ll take you along!

For the photos I used my Canon 5D Mark III

The SIGMA 17-50mm f/2.8 in a warm spring rain

On the fotogenerell blog, the SIGMA 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM lens has often received a lot of positive feedback and in my opinion it is one of SIGMA’s evergreens. And this isn’t the case for no good reason – the all-round lens from SIGMA’s promising Contemporary series guarantees what the manufacturer promises. Compared to many lenses from SIGMA’s premium class, the Art series, the lens is very compact and light, which is why I prefer packing it in as a travel companion with the other heavier lenses. To me this lens has always been more than just a good backup – it has taken many of my favorite pictures.

A night walk with the SIGMA 24-105mm F4 DG OS HSM | Art

As some of you may already know, I belong to the persons who experience wanderlust like very ordinary emotional chaos. At almost every hour at day and at night I’d love to hop on the next plane and explore new worlds. The destination itself isn’t even important for me – the main thing is getting away.

A lens put to the acid test – the SIGMA Art 50-100mm f/1.8 DC HSM

Objektivtest_Tiergarten-1-min

As you can certainly remember, the SIGMA Art 50-100mm f/1.8 DC HSM lens has been tested twice already under different conditions. Here comes the third practical test. First I tested the lens during a visit in the zoo, another time during a walk at night as I was searching for the colorful shining city lights I wanted to capture on my camera’s sensor.

Now I wanted to find out more about the image quality of the lens while shooting in the daylight in the early afternoon under a cloudy sky in a room with big windows. Moreover, in this article I will describe many advantages but also some minor drawbacks of the lens from my point of view and experience.

Marrakech

Hey guys,

Today’s photo walk also takes us to the red city or the Pearl of the South – better known as Marrakech. I don’t get tired of repeating how spellbound I was by this city. I don’t know if you know this feeling but some places simply are different. They have their charm and without realizing you get spellbound.

So far not many cities have delighted me as much as that one. Besides Istanbul and Hanoi, Marrakech definitely belongs to my favorite photo cities.

Jardin Majorelle – the Blue Garden

 2d6a0501-min

Hey guys,

today I’d like to show you some more impressions of my days in Marrakech. After the Djemaa al Fna, where you’re about to get 1000 different impressions ranging from snake charmers to mobile shops and unique odors, and the souqs, a showcase of interesting handcrafts, there’s of course a lot more to see.

Another of my true highlights was the Jardin Majorelle or the Blue Garden. It was created by French painter Jacques Majorelle in 1923. Today the artist and his art have largely been forgotten, however, his garden belongs to one of the places in town that’s worth to be visited. Another interesting detail about this magical park is the fact that it was purchased in 1947 by famous fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent and his boyfriend and business partner, Pierre Bergé.

Marrakech with the SIGMA 24-105mm F4 DG OS HSM | Art lens

This year I already felt like getting on the plane in January to escape the daily routine for a couple of days. I wanted to go to a city where I wouldn’t have to rush from sight to sight but where I can simply enjoy the atmosphere. I wanted to stroll through the narrow lanes and the lively squares, enjoy some sun and have a unique view from nice rooftop terraces. Some good coffee and tea, fresh-squeezed juices, a different kind of cuisine, diligent handcrafts and amazing colors… A few days in Marrakech, the “red city”, the “pearl of the South” combine all these aspects for me!

Photo walk in the snowy mountains

Verschneite_Berge_Fotospaziergang-1.jpg

After the first long-awaited snowfall I didn’t want to stay in my apartment any longer last weekend. In order to have light and flexible baggage to carry this time I decided once again after a long time for my compact all-round lens, the SIGMA 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM. With this lens I had a wonderful range of fixed focal lengths suitable for every subject. The intense consistent open aperture of 2.8 allows nice bokeh and a great depth of field even though it’s an APSC camera.

Finally some snow

For some weeks I’ve been searching for winter desperately, for some snow on the trees, for some icicles hanging down the rooftops, for children walking through the winter landscape wearing snowshoes or trailing their toboggans. All I’ve found so far was sad sceneries, barren meadows and anything else but a winter fairytale atmosphere.

As I fell into my bed exhausted yesterday evening and dared to glimpse out of the window before closing my eyes, the image was totally different from this morning. During the night snow finally surprised us for the first time this winter. I was happy like a little child the way I always get happy when everything is white.

When ice crystals dance

Driving home for Christmas“. Every year I listen to this song on the radio in December, I’m really looking forward to Christmas, the season of the year where I can go home to my family and find plenty of time for everyone without being stressed. Besides the sparkling Christmas tree, the sweet smell of cookies, frankincense and cinnamon and the funny, long and simply beautiful afternoons in my parents’ living room I also enjoy the silence of nature while being home. So in the past few days I went for some longer walks in the forest and through the town with the Christmas decorations.

However, as probably most of you, I kept looking in vain for the snow in the fields and on the trees.
