Oooh, the time has come again. The award season is well under way and the finalists of one of my favorite contests have already been announced. Last year I told you about my fascination for the Comedy Wildlife Photography Award and I’m starting to realize that this year’s selection of the winning and finalists’ photos isn’t going to disappoint me, either.
The 41 finalists were announced few days ago. The contest has become increasingly popular and I believe the quality of the images submitted is becoming more and more professional. The thing I find so great about the Comedy Wildlife Photography Award isn’t just the incredibly funny snapshots but that the whole idea behind the awards serves a very good purpose. The award team stands up for environmental protection and the protection of the animals.
The founders write on their website: “The Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards, ingeniously titled to avoid any confusion, was the result of two factors: Firstly, a need for a photography competition that was light hearted, upbeat, possibly unpretentious and mainly about wildlife doing funny things. After its first year, these objectives seem to have been met. Secondly, and way more importantly, this competition is about conservation.”
Thus this competition serves as an advertising panel for the organization behind: the Born Free Foundation.
The Born Free Foundation is an international wildlife organization. Today the foundation serves the protection of wild animals and the compassionate protection of animals and fights to save animals, stop their suffering, rescue people and protect rare species. The organization is determined to stop the exploitation of captured animals, to eliminate the idea of zoos and save animals in the wild.
Since many people manage very well to close their eyes to reality as soon as they get confronted with the ugly and tragic truth, this particular award is a great middle road to make people deal with issues like environmental and wildlife protection.
