More pictures and some thoughts on post processing and future blog entries

The comparison of noise reduction algorithms in X3F Tools and SPP 6.3 (part 1 and 2) helped me understand how great the additional potential in Foveon images that can be released with relatively easy post-processing actually is. Currently, I’m testing a number of editing steps (noise reduction and sharpening) which I’ve come across in the DSLR forum. I’d like to work out a workflow that can improve noise performance of color images as dramatically as the blue channel workflow can do with black/white images. I’m positive and I think that with some fine-tuning it should be possible to increase the acceptable sensitivity range of Merrill and Quattro sensors for color photography up to ISO1600.

Beyond that, I’m experimenting with the Lightroom adjustment brush tool in combination with negative clarity and some noise reduction in order to improve bokeh and eliminate noise, which is particularly annoying in homogeneous backgrounds, as well as possible. I’ll be finished with the article on noise reduction and sharpening by the end of this month. The workflow with the paintbrush tool is somewhat tricky, so I’ll take a bit longer for that one.

As you can see in the pictures of yesterday’s photo shoot below, nothing of all the things mentioned above has been used except for the sharpening in Lightroom. 😉
