Something different for a change: black and white macros

I’ve been thinking about going to London for three or four days, but after almost an entire week of the typical London weather here in Belgrade I pretty much dumped the idea. Why spend money if I can get the London flair – which I can only stomach in small doses at a time anyway – for free at home? 😉

From a photographer’s point of view it is, of course, a pity, if May is drawing to a close but there has been only heavy rain for days. After all, one wants to photograph motives which are only available at this time of year. On the other hand, if the weather, that is to say, the external circumstances, did not make experimentation necessary, then one would probably always be taking the same photos. Therefore it was my intention to take pictures of macro motifs specifically in the rain and at low light.

Since ISO100 and 200 were not an option anyway and since I do not own a high-ISO camera, I took the smallest and most easily manageable macro combo (Sigma DP3 Merrill / Marum DHG200) that I have. This one fits snugly under the rain jacket, I can get it out fast and, as soon as the photos are “in the can”, I can put it away again equally quickly. One should think that proper, water-resistant photo-equipment is absolutely necessary, but that is not the case. The display was covered in small droplets after not even a minute, and the underside of the Marumi was already muddy after only a few shots close to the ground – and the DP3M is still alive and k(l)icking. 😉 After an hour of “available light” macro-photography setting with ISO800-1600, I returned home soaked through and with the following pictures on my memory card:
