As one of the „up and coming“ stars in the world of photography, Maciej Dakowicz certainly is a household name to many street photography enthusiasts. Meanwhile, the in London residing polish photographer is active predominantly in the area of documentary photography; on this occasion, however, I would like to draw attention to exactly those photos of all things, which made him famous.
Over the course of his multi-annual photo project “Cardiff After Dark”, Maciej documented nightlife in the capital of Wales in order to call attention to various deficiencies such as, for instance, binge drinking and violence resulting from alcohol excesses.
The discussion over his pictures has even reached political circles in 2009 and forced those responsible to do something against the apparent issues. Thus, measures have been taken to discourage pubs and clubs from “all you can drink” offers. Maciej’s photos are not only beautiful and partially hilarious, but also a perfect example for photography causing positive effects. A must-see!
